Can you tell I‘m kinda obsessed with bucket lists? Each season, I come up with a brand new one. Writing down what I would like to do in the coming months puts me in seasonal mood and it also ensures that I make the most of the new season.
And fall is hands down my favorite season (apart from Christmas, but that’s technically not a whole season). For some people, January 1st and the New Year is the fresh start. For me, it’s always been fall. Not sure why, maybe it’s a deeply ingrained habit from my school years?
I love the colors, the chill, refreshing weather, the smells, the fall weekends, the fashion, the flavors, the excitement of the coming holiday season – everything is just so beautiful and exciting. After the draining hot humidity of summer and before the chilling darkness of winter, fall really is the perfect season for new beginnings, new habits, new things to try.
Style your own fall this year or take some inspiration from my fall bucket list.
My fall bucket list
Go for a long walk in the neighborhood
Enjoy the seasonal home decorations and long walks in the leaf-covered streets.
Sit in the park or a terrace with a friend, have a hot café and talk away the afternoon
And let the mobile phones stay in the bag.
Take a hike in the nearby mountains during foliage season
I’m not the biggest nature-lover, but this is definitely the time to get out.
Go to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch and pick your own produce
Support local farmers and your health.
Carve a pumpkin
Do a unique design this year and don’t forget to roast the pumpkin seeds.
Do a seasonal wardrobe cleanout
Take away your summer clothes, donate what you haven’t used all season. Go over your warm clothes, organize your closet by style and color, and once again, sell or donate what doesn’t fit into your closet or lifestyle anymore.
Light that exquisite candle you’ve been saving for so long
Make an ordinary evening special and focus on treating yourself.
Wear a fall lipstick
Be bold and have fun: grape hue, burgundy, plum, chocolate, or maple red are great this season.
Add a few fall touches to your home
Small décor pumpkins, a fall-colored fresh flower bouquet, some cozy blankets
Open your windows in a crisp early morning
And let the fresh air wake you up. Advanced option: sit on the porch with a blanket and a hot morning coffee.
Spice up your hot drinks
Try cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, pumpkin spice, ginger, cardamom, honey, maple syrup. Some ideas here.
Make a reading list for the cozy fall nights at home
Also, get ready for Season 2 of Stranger Things. But don’t prioritize Netflix over the wonderful world of books.
Do a special fall-themed photo shoot
Go outside, play with the leaves, shoot a fall-themed flatlay.
Go over your resolutions/bucket list from January and renew your focus on them
Usually, New Year’s Resolutions are well-forgotten by this time. If you fell off the track, now’s the time go get back on smashing your goals.
Start your Christmas preparation early to spare some stress
Think of the menu, decoration theme, and thoughtful gifts for your loved ones.
Have fun with layering your clothes
The best part of fall fashion? Layering. Get creative and pair different textures, colors, and fabrics. (And come back for a post on some major fall minimalist style inspiration next week).
Go away on a mini fall vacation
Fall is the perfect time for some traveling – great sightseeing weather, smaller crowds, out-of-season prices. A long weekend exploring a brand new city or a countryside retreat, enjoying the change of colors – up to you.
Volunteer and donate
Don’t forget that the holiday season is not only about gifts, family time, and seasonal movies. Think about what people will need in the coming cold months and find your local charities.
Don’t get lazy, continue to work out
Cozy knits and early darkness are not an excuse to put your fitness routine and your health on the backburner. Stay committed to working out.
Go to a fall festival and celebrate the new season
Try new favors, drink a hot apple cider, spend a fun afternoon with friends.
Step up your pampering routine
Time for the facial oils, essential oil-infused baths, oil cleansers, and rich moisturizer butters.
Start a brand new lifestyle habit
Whether it’s a new healthy eating habit, a slow morning routine, a self-care exercise, or a green lifestyle habit, pick something and commit to it throughout the season.
Wear fall seasonal colors
Caramel, olive, mustard, navy, burgundy, cream, butter, gray, black, maple, golden tones – after the light pastels of spring/summer, it’s time to go darker, and richer
Eat more chestnuts
I feel like poor chestnuts are always unfairly neglected in pumpkin season. You shouldn’t do that, as they have tons of health benefits. Compared to other nuts, they’re relatively low in calories and fats, an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, they are gluten-free and exceptionally rich in vitamin-C. Roast them, try chestnut flour, make a soup, a ravioli, or a chestnut cake. See some inspiration here.
Don’t fall into the frenzy of Black Friday
Either sit it out or make a list of things you really, truly need and ignore the craziness.
Hope these images put you in a fall mood!
What’s on your fall bucket list?
I love how so many of your ideas are health (mental or physical) and wellness related. We’re about to enter such a hectic season (oh and also flu season, of course) and it’s important to keep ahead of the curve on some of these things.
Funny you’re saying that, I already have a 10 healthy habits to keep during the winter season post drafted – so I wholeheartedly agree with you!!:) Thanks for commenting, I’m going through your blog now, I like it very much!! Especially the lifestyle and science bits, keep it up!
