So, it seems it’s finally summer.
The season when time slows down and days become seemingly never-ending.
The season of fun, laughter, and carefree attitude.
The season we should make the most of.
The season when memories are made for a lifetime.
The season of road trips across countries, faraway travels, and epic adventures.
I’m all for those epic adventures. But let’s not forget the small, simple things either.
The moments we may not stop to acknowledge all the time, but that are more essential parts of the summer experience than we may think at first.
The moments that are so ingrained in my brain that even a list like this brings back smells, flavors, and that ultimate summer’s finally here feeling.
These are the perfect slow summer moments I’m looking forward to the most:
- Red, ripe, sweet tomatoes with fresh basil, mozzarella, olive oil and sea salt for dinner
- Walking in the city in the golden hours and having ice-cream
- Sleeping next to open windows
- Late afternoon moments on a beach, when the midday sun has retreated, families are starting to pack to go home, and a calming stillness is descending on the water
- Laying in a sun lounger in the shade and being immersed in a book for hours
- Going out for coffee and a morning photo shoot when the city is still half-asleep
- Letting my hair air-dry
- The cracking sound of cutting up watermelon
- Spontaneous get-togethers with friends
- A movie night outdoors
- Iced coffee
- An early evening neighborhood stroll among people walking their dogs, children riding their bikes, the smell of barbecue smoke and sounds of laughter coming from somewhere
- A refreshing midday shower
- The smell of fresh lavender
- Outdoor everything – lunch, coffees, happy hour
- Watching a sunset by a lake or sea
- Eating fresh fruits instead of a proper lunch, because it’s all you crave on a hot, humid day
- Sprinklers in a city
- Fruit-infused water all day long
- An Italian style siesta
- Wearing jeans shorts and a loose tank even at 11 pm
- The cooling sensation of a light summer shawl
- The rainbow colors of a farmers market
- Rosé with friends at a rooftop bar
- The smell of summer rain
What are your perfect slow summer moments?
