There are some cities I can’t get enough of. They lure me back constantly, letting me on their secrets slowly. London is definitely one of those cities.
Visiting a new place for the first time is always exciting. But there’s something special about revisiting places as well. It really gives you a chance to experience slow travel at its best. You don’t feel the pressure to run around all day, you get to go at a more leisurely pace, spend more time just wandering, seeing, observing.
This is exactly what we did last weekend in London. Or, at least, most of the weekend, as we also grabbed the chance to finally visit a place that’s been on our travel wishlist for some time now, Bath. It’s a lovely city that’s a relatively short train ride from London. As it’s such a small place, one day is perfectly enough to explore the sights, get lost in the streets, drink a cream tea, and marvel at the golden-hued Georgian architecture.
Saturday was all about long walks in East London, people watching at tiny cafes, vintage shopping, and spending some time in small independent bookstores – always one of my favorite things to do in a new city.
The Dora Maar exhibit currently on display at Tate Modern was another highlight of the trip. Most people know her as one of the (many) partners of Picasso, but in fact, she was an incredibly talented artist on her own. Her art spanned 7 decades and different genres and the exhibit did a great job of guiding us through it. Definitely recommend it.
